Nationally Ranked

"United We Stand"

Carolina Islanders and Grandstrand Juniors proudly presents...

Why Coast United??

Why is it that certain clubs consistently compete at the highest level nationally?  It starts by winning a numbers game.  Top clubs usually have 150-200 players'tryout per age group, more than most clubs have total.  With those numbers it's much easier to find great players that can compete at the highest level.  With those numbers you can begin to look at player's positions and intangibles, like personality and court presence to build a truly elite team.  Top Clubs in the Nation also attract player from a wider distance to bring the best players together.  It is our goal, with two great clubs working together, Elite teams would be able to compete Nationally and will now be availalble to you.

Concept:  To combine the collective knowledge and resources of multiple established clubs and select the premier volleyball athletes from Mrytle Beach to Charleston with the purpose to create Elite level teams,  A larger demographic area will increase the base of elite athletes you have the opportunity to play with.
"Carolina Islanders and Grandstrand will continue to offer our traditional team programs in Myrtle Beach and Charleston.  Coast United will be an additional program created for only the top athletes from each area to be pushed to another level."

   Questions and Answers

 Q. How many players will be selected on a team?

A. Teams will have 9-11 players.

Q. Will you have more than one team per age group?

A. Yes, by combining players from Myrtle Beach and Charleston even our second team will be elite.

QWho will the Coaches be?

AIslanders and GSJ will devote our TOP coaches to the various age groups involved in Coast United. The names and resume of these coaches will be announced soon.

Q. With players coming from different areas how will teams develop chemistry?
A. We understand the importance of team chemistry but the key is getting similar athletes on the same team with common goals. Chemistry is not a question of time together, but do the players want the same thing. Athletes in pursuit of being the best spend less time creating drama. They also need less time beside each other on the court. Most players can tell very quickly if they can play with the girl next to them. The USA Volleyball High Performance program brings players together from all over the US and creates great teams in 10 days, imagine what can be done over the season having great players together. The Coast United program will provide preseason time for teams to bond and players to get to know one another. In addition to team camp in December the early team training sessions will last longer than a normal practice. After tournaments start in January athletes will do more local training with 1 team practice a week. With 2-3 tournaments a month players will have plenty of time getting to know one another and building chemistry.

Q. How many players from Charleston and how many players from Myrtle Beach will be selected for a team?
A. We cannot know for sure until we have our showcases. The first priority is to put the best team together. However, we do anticipate having a similar number (4-6 players) from each area knowing that it would help with ride sharing.
