DIRECTOR & COACH Pamela Cenkner

 

COACH Alicia "Bubby" Khoury
Bubby played 4 years of Varsity Volleyball as a setter for Bowsher High School in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio.  While at Bowsher, she earned All-City honors her sophomore, junior and senior years as well as all district honors.  She was also the team captain.  Bubby then went to Ownes Community College and continued her career as a setter for the Division II school.  She was the team captain and earned 1st team all state honors.  Bubby then transferred to Newberry College in South Carolina and finished her career there.  While at Newberry, she served as team captain and broke the school record for "most assists."  Bubby moved to Charleston upon graduating from Newberry in 2006 and has resided here ever since.  While living in Charleston, Bubby was the Assistant coach at Bishop England High School for 2 years.  Bubby has also coached for Carolina Islanders for the past 3 seasons with our 17 & 18 year old National teams.  Bubby resides in downtown Charleston and works in Advertising for the Charleston City Paper.

COACH Candice Rose
Candice grew up in Mechanicsville, MD and played HS volleyball for Chopticon High School and club volleyball for Southern Maryland Juniors.  Candice was a three year starter at Chopticon High School (Varsity).  Earned first-team all-county honors as a junior and senior, and was named Southern Maryland Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete junior and senior year.  Earned First Team All-Southern Maryland Athletic Conference and Washington Post All-Extra honors as a senior.  Also garnered honorable-mention all-metro, team captain and MVP recognition senior season.  Named Army Reserve Scholar-Athlete senior year.  Earned second-team all-conference honors and Washington Post All-Extra honors as a junior.  Named Most Improved player and second-team all-county honors as a sophomore.  
She went on to play collegiate volleyball for Division I Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL from 2001-2005 and earned her BS in Sports Administration and also received the Sports Administration Student of the Year Award in 2004-2005.  In 2004 Candice lead her team in the Atlantic Sun Conference and was granted a berth in the NCAA tournament.  Candice was a standout hitter for JU playing middle her freshman year,  then moving to right side and outside her sophomore to senior year.  Candice coached 5 years at the National and Regional level with the Jacksonville Juniors as well coaching many camps at Choptican High, Florida Community College, University of North Florida and the YMCA.  Candice is currently the Sports and Aquatics Director for the Arlington Family YMCA and is process of moving to our great city here in Charleston. 

COACH Adrian Rickert
Adrian graduated from Freedom High School in 2002, leading her team to a State Championship in 1999, Sweet 16 in 2000 and the Final 4 in 2001. Adrian played club volleyball with the Hickory Inspirational Spikers from 1999-2000 and then with Biltmore Volleyball Club from 2000-2002.  Upon graduation from high school, she was a 4 year starter in the setter position at University of NC, Greensboro, Division I.  Adrian has coached many summer camps at UNCG and Quest for Excellence to coaching club at Piedmont Triad and Biltmore Volleyball Academy.  She was also the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Greensboro College, Division III school in 2006 and an Athletic Director/Volleyball Coach at AC Reynolds Middle School in 2008.  Outside of volleyball Adrian enjoys teaching at Daniel Island Middle School.  This will be Adrian's first year coaching with the Carolina Islanders.  Outside of volleyball and teaching, Adrian enjoys spending time with "new" hubby Jody.

COACH Ron Nester
Ron started coaching volleyball at Holly Hill Academy in 2005.  His varsity team has won their region and have qualified for the SCISA State tournament every year under his leadership.  Coach Ron's varsity teams have won the region and state SCISA titles in 2007 & 2008 and awared Coach of the Year for both.  In 2006 and 2007,  Ron coached the SCISA AA North/South All Star games.  In 2008, he coached the SCISA All-Star team vs the Georgia Independent School Association team and coached the SCISA AA All-Star team vs the North Carolina Independent School Association team in the Oasis Shriner All-Star game.  Ron has coached JO for 4 years, the last two years being with the Carolina Islanders.  He has coached both regional and national teams in JO.  Outside of volleyball, Ron enjoys spending time with his wife, Lisa, daughters, Chelsea & Hannah and son Ronnie.  Ron resides in Holly Hill and is a real estate broker for Lake Marion Realty.

COACH Laura Tyndall
Laura started playing volleyball in 1999.  She started on her high school volleyball team when she was only in 8th grade.  Throughout her 5 year varsity career she received many awards:  Conference Player of the Year for SCISA schools (2001,2002,2003), MVP of her high school team (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003), and Gatorade Rookie of the Year in 2004 when she switched to Wando High School her senior year.  Laura was part of the first team at Carolina Islanders and lead her team to the Regional Championship title in the 15's, under Director and Coach Pamela Cenkner.  Laurned earned all tournament team selection for all four years in club with the Carolina Islanders.   She began coaching for Carolina Islanders after she graduated high school in the fall of 2005.  She has coached at the National and Regional level for Carolina Islanders.  She recently graduated from Charleston Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts and is now currently employed as an Enrollment Counselor there as well.


COACH Paige Taylor
Paige Taylor was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. She graduated from First Baptist Church School in Charleston.  She began playing volleyball at the age of twelve, and her first team experience came when she made the JV team at 13.  She began playing club volleyball that same year.  She was the starting setter for both JV and Varsity through her high school years.  Her sophomore, junior, and senior years she was awarded with All State, All Conference, and SCISA player of the year.  After graduating high school she went on to play college volleyball for St Andrews Presbyterian, Division II.  However, before the start of her College career, she was chosen along with two other girls to travel to Arizona, and train with ASU and Emory Riddle.  Still today she is active with volleyball playing in grass tournaments and for the Isle of Palms Recreation League.  This will be Paige's first year with the Carolina Islanders. 


COACH Danelle May
Danelle began playing volleyball at a private school in Georgia and made the JV there at an early age of 11.  Unfortunately, Danelle did not get to stay in one school very long because with her Dad being in the Navy she moved from school to school and team to team all through middle school.  Danelle always played up above her age group in every sport she played.  Upon moving back to Charleston, Danelle was a 3 sport athlete her freshman year, playing basketball, softball and volleyball at Stratford High School.  Danelle played club volleyball with the Charleston Juniors for 5 years participating in 2 National Championships.  Upon High school graduation and earning many accolades from all conference player and best defensive player her junior and senior year.  Danelle continued playing collegiate volleyball at the Citadel, Division I school.  This will be Danelle's 3rd year coaching with the Carolina Islanders.  Danelle is pursuing her Engineering degree in hopes of joining the US Navy  and becoming a pilot. 

COACH Chelsea-Lee Wiles
Chelsea-Lee graduated from AC Flora High School earning many accolades!  She was team captain in 2005 and 2006, broke school record of over 500 kills in 2006, 3A Player of the Year in 2005, 3A All State and All Region Team of SC CAWS in 2003-2005, earned MVP award 2005 and Best Defensive player 2002-2004.  Through high school Chelsea-Lee played club volleyball with Magnum, SC Plex, Carpe Diem and Lexington Juniors.  At 16 years of age Chelsea became the youngest player ever to win a National Championship for Adult USA Volleyball in the Women's Open Division, including beating out the USA National Team.  Chelsea was looking forward to playing at the collegiate level for University of Florida or the University of Hawaii, both Divison I schools5 until getting diagnosed with two herniated discs in her lower spine.  Ending her indoor volleyball career Chelsea-Lee refused to give up the sport and is now having success playing on the beach.  She is a currently a member and competitor of AVPNext, a division of AVP Crocs Pro Beach Volleyball Tour.  Chelsea is in her junior year at the College of Charleston.  This will be Chelsea-Lee's 2nd year coaching with the Carolina Islanders.  

COACH Jessica Putnam
Jessica started playing volleyball at Cathedral Academy under coach and director, Pamela Cenkner.  Throughout high school she received many awards and help lead her team to 3 state region titles in SCISA her sophomore, junior and senior year.  This will be Jessica's 4th season coaching club volleyball with the Carolina Islanders.  Jessica first came to the Islanders as a player in 2005 and continued to play again in 2006 earning all tournament team selection both seasons.  In addition to coaching club, for past three years she has been an assistant coach to Pamela Cenkner at Christ Our King  middle school.  Jessica is a great fundamentals coach and those players who have been under her instruction make huge strides of improvement upon returning to their school teams.  Outside of volleyball, Jessica is a junior at the College of Charleston where she is currently pursuing a B.S. in Psychology.
